Who is Hilda Basi?

Hilda Effiong Bassey generally known as Hilda Baci is a prominent Nigerian cook, born on September 20, 1996, in Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria.

She has made a name for herself in the Nigerian cooking industry. She was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and developed a passion for cooking at a young age.

Her mother was a cook and baker who instilled in her a love for cooking from a young age.

She worked as a chef in various hotels and restaurants in Nigeria, including the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, and the Nicon Luxury Hotel, among others. She has also served as a consultant and trainer for several culinary schools and institutions in Nigeria and beyond.

Throughout her career, Basi has been recognized for her culinary talent and creativity. She recieved awards and accolades, (Nigerian Hospitality Award for Best African Restaurant in 2013 and the African Top Chef Award in 2017).

She cooked for 100 hours straight, beating the previous record of 72 hours set by Lata Tondon (born 15 April 1980) an Indian chef from Madhya Pradesh who is the Guinness World Record holder for marathon cooking.

Basi’s attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record was not an easy task. She had to cook a variety of dishes, including soups, stews, and sauces, for 100 hours straight. She was allowed a five-minute break every hour to rest and rehydrate but was required to cook continuously for the rest of the time.
