If you are wondering – what is a healthy relationship like? or you are asking – healthy relationships characteristics? Then you should delve deep into this post as I will be discussing the signs that will make you know a healthy relationship.
When you talk about a healthy relationship, there is no strict guide to know if you are in a healthy relationship. However, if you are in a relationship where one of you constantly put everything into the relationship and the other doesn’t reciprocate, that’s a sign of an unhealthy relationship. If your partner is abusive, the relationship is unhealthy also.
In a healthy relationship, you should always feel loved, secure and you should never feel terrified of your partner.
Having said all these, there are signs to look out for and know if your relationship is healthy.
How to Know a Healthy Relationship
1. You Support yourselves
One person shouldn’t stress themselves out trying to please their spouse by doing all the nice things for their spouse and don’t get any support in return – one person shouldn’t initiate physical affection or sex – one person should not plan the dates and outing.
If your partner is there for you in tough times, support you in the good times by offering encouragement and enthusiasm. It’s a sign the relationship is healthy.
2. You respect yourselves
Respect for your partner is healthy for your relationship. When you and your partner respect each other not only as partners, but as human beings and unique individuals; like respecting each other’s personal dignity, wishes, and seeing value in each other; then the relationship is a healthy one.
3. You both communicate
If the communication you have with your partner most of the time is physical affection, listening to each other, validating the other person, using soft words, expressing appreciation, affirmation, and compliments. Then it is a sign the relationship is healthy.
You can complement and express appreciation to your spouse by sending your spouse Romantic messages or by telling them to their face.

4. You both are honest
You shouldn’t build the foundation of your relationship on lies. If you feel your partner is honest with you then your relationship is healthy.
In a healthy relationship, one person is not responsible for making all the decisions (dictate). If both of you direct the relationship; both of you have a say and input in the relationship and develop it together. Then the relationship is healthy.
6. Non – Violent
If the argument in your relationship is not hostile i.e. you can comfortably disagree on things and resolve peacefully.
If the relationship is also free from physical assaults, it’s likely you’re in a healthy relationship.
If your spouse views you and them as equal and doesn’t act as if they are better or higher than you. This is a sign your relationship is healthy.
